I had the honor of welcoming Australia’s newly appointed Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoff Bowan (
@AUinUA) , to the Save Ukraine center — one of his first visits since beginning his mission.
This was more than just an introductory meeting. It was an opportunity to demonstrate how international support translates into tangible systems that protect children and strengthen families affected by war.
We presented our core services: spaces where children recover, learn, and regain a sense of safety, alongside programs that help parents rebuild the skills and resilience needed to care for them. This work is grounded in a clear principle: when parents are supported, children are safer, and achieving that requires consistent, structured effort.
With the support of the Australian Government through the Direct Aid Program (DAP), we have developed and continue to implement the “Sure Start” program — practical, community-based support that helps families regain stability and confidence in their daily lives.
We also presented the PANDA Center for child survivors of sexual abuse and exploitation. Australia’s contribution has been critical in completing key parts of this space, which will soon begin its operations.
One of the most powerful moments was a conversation with teenagers we rescued from occupation. They spoke about the pressure, propaganda, and isolation they faced — and about their brave decision to leave. Today, they are rebuilding their lives in Ukraine.
I am grateful to the Government of Australia (
@ausgov) , Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
@dfat, the Australian Embassy to Ukraine, and Ambassador Bowan for their trust and support. Together, we are creating the conditions for recovery, dignity, and a future children can believe in.
