Today, I am honoured to join distinguished Nigerians in celebrating a statesman and elder of our nation, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, GCFR, on the occasion of his 84th birthday and the public presentation of books documenting his remarkable life, service, and contributions to Nigeria and Africa. General Abdulsalami occupies a unique place in our national history. At a critical moment in Nigeria's journey, he demonstrated uncommon courage, patriotism, and selflessness by guiding our nation through a peaceful transition to democratic governance. His actions helped lay the foundation for the democratic dispensation that Nigeria continues to build upon today. As we celebrate General Abdulsalami today, we are reminded that true leadership is measured not by the accumulation of power, but by the positive impact one leaves on people and institutions. His life continues to demonstrate that service to the nation must always be guided by responsibility and a commitment to the common good. May Almighty God continue to grant him good health, wisdom, and strength to keep serving humanity and our nation. Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. -PO

JUNE 14 Today is the Feast Day of Spiritual Warrior Saint Basil the Great Pray for us Basil, the Bishop of Caesarea, is one of the most distinguished Doctors of the Church. Born in 329, Basil was on his way to becoming a famous teacher when he decided to begin a religious life of gospel poverty. After studying various modes of religious life, he founded what was probably the first monastery in Asia Minor. He is to monks of the East what Saint Benedict is to the West, and Basil’s principles influence Eastern monasticism today. He was ordained a priest, assisted the archbishop of Caesarea (now southeastern Turkey) and ultimately became archbishop himself, in spite of opposition from some of the bishops under him, probably because they foresaw coming reforms. Arianism, one of the most damaging heresies in the history of the Church which denied the divinity of Christ, was at its height. Emperor Valens persecuted orthodox believers, and put great pressure on Basil to remain silent and admit the heretics to communion. Basil remained firm, and Valens backed down. But trouble remained. When the great Saint Athanasius died, the mantle of the defender of the faith against Arianism fell upon Basil. He strove mightily to unite and rally his fellow Catholics who were crushed by tyranny and torn by internal dissension. He was misunderstood, misrepresented, accused of heresy and ambition. Even appeals to the pope brought no response. “For my sins I seem to be unsuccessful in everything.” Basil was a strong supporter of the Nicene Creed. With his friend Gregory of Nazianzus and his brother Gregory of Nyssa, he is part of the trio known as "The Three Cappadocians," of which he was the most important in practical genius and theological writings. Tireless in pastoral care, Basil preached twice a day to huge crowds, built a hospital that was called a wonder of the world — as a youth he had organized famine relief and worked in a soup kitchen himself — and fought the prostitution business. Basil was best known as an orator. Though not recognized greatly in his lifetime, his writings rightly place him among the great teachers of the Church. Seventy-two years after his death, the Council of Chalcedon described him as “the great Basil, minister of grace who has expounded the truth to the whole earth.”

Daniel goes to the upper room to worship… ✝️🔥🔥🔥 “It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.” So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever! The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” So King Darius put the decree in writing. Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?” The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.” When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him. Then the men went as a group to King Darius and said to him, “Remember, Your Majesty, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.” So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!” A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep. At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?” Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.” Daniel 6:1-23 NIV bible.com/bible/111/dan.6.1-…

The dev’s job has always been solving human problems. @kelseyhightower, former Google Distinguished Engineer, on why he’s adopted ‘zero token architecture’ and the importance of thinking for yourself: “My entire career, I always thought about writing code as decision making. So before we do anything, we all figure out what needs to happen and then we have to convince the computer to do it. And every key word, every if statement, every function call is a decision we're making. And of course, the syntax kind of gets in the way from time to time. So Stack Overflow, we go. The importance of thinking for yourself in the age of gen AI: Then gen AI comes out and in early stages it's kind of like people were just talking to the machine and I've never been impressed by talking to a computer - I'd rather talk to real people. So I don't really care too much about that part. Yes, it mimics human capabilities for people that want to talk to a computer, knock yourselves out. I'll post things like, ‘hey, I'm adopting the zero token architecture’. People're, like what's zero token architecture? Instead of burning tokens, you learn things and you think for yourself and just complete tasks. And they're like, oh, why would you want to do that? I was like, we taught the machines. I don't know why people skip this step. ‘Hey Kelsey, there's going to be this artificial intelligence going to do all the things’ like, but we trained it. So all of those times I'm writing code, the books I've published, the comments back and forth on helping people solve problems - it's all in there. Maybe it's arguable that they have their own worldview based on that, and maybe it's slightly different. But I can never put the machine over a person - under any circumstance. Engineering has always been solving human problems with the best tool for the job: And I think there's a subset, and I don't want to say everyone in the space is doing this, but there is a healthy subset of people who really believe what is the purpose of a person? Why do we need them to write code? Why do we need them to build software? It's like maybe you don't understand what the job has always been. We are trying to solve human problems and we use whatever technology is required. In some cases, the technology happens to be software and software ain't required for every human endeavor.”
