OPP Reminder: Obey All Road Closures
With winter weather continuing to impact the North East Region, the
#OPP is reminding motorists that road closures are put in place for public safety and must be obeyed.
During severe winter conditions, roads and highways may be temporarily closed when travel becomes unsafe. These closures help protect motorists, road maintenance crews, and emergency responders, and allow snow removal, towing, and emergency operations to be completed safely.
Driving on a closed roadway or ignoring police direction may result in charges under the Highway Traffic Act. Here are charges that may apply:
• Disobey Traffic Officer – s.134(1)
• Driving on a Closed Highway – s.134(3)
• Disobey Sign – s.182(2)
The offence may result in fines, demerit points, and a possible court appearance.
Road closures save lives. Ignoring them puts everyone at risk.
