Si #Cuba no estuviera sometida al bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero impuesto por Estados Unidos, su capacidad científica y médica, ya reconocida mundialmente, podría multiplicarse exponencialmente. Sin las trabas que limitan el acceso a reactivos, equipos de alta tecnología y materias primas, el Centro de Ingeniería Genética y Biotecnología (CIGB) y el Instituto Finlay podrían producir vacunas de vanguardia a una escala mucho mayor y con menor costo. Un ejemplo claro es la vacuna cubana Abdala, eficaz contra la COVID-19, cuyo desarrollo y distribución internacional se vieron obstaculizados por las restricciones que dificultaban la compra de insumos y el envío de muestras a otros países o la más reciente vinculada a la lucha contra el cáncer.
Otro logro cubano que brillaría aún más sin el bloqueo es la eliminación de la transmisión del VIH y la sífilis de madre a hijo, un avance que la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) volvió a reconocer hace solo unos días. Además, al no tener que desviar recursos para sortear las sanciones financieras, el sistema de la ciencia cubana podría invertir en nuevas plataformas de diagnóstico y en la formación de especialistas, consolidando así un legado que significa más vida. #CubaEstáFirme
