🎸 1 maggio 1966: l’ultima esibizione dei Beatles nel Regno Unito Il 1° maggio 1966 i Beatles salirono sul palco del celebre concerto “NME Poll Winners” al Wembley Empire Pool di Londra, in quella che sarebbe diventata la loro ultima esibizione dal vivo davanti ad un pubblico pagante nel Regno Unito. Di fronte a circa 10.000 spettatori, il gruppo eseguì un set di appena quindici minuti, ma destinato a entrare nella storia. La scaletta comprendeva cinque brani: “I Feel Fine”, “Nowhere Man”, “Day Tripper”, “If I Needed Someone” e “I’m Down”. Quella serata riuniva sul palco del Wembley Empire Pool alcuni dei nomi più importanti della musica britannica degli anni Sessanta. Oltre ai Beatles erano presenti anche i Rolling Stones, gli Who, gli Yardbirds e Dusty Springfield, in una line-up che oggi appare leggendaria. Sia i Rolling Stones sia i Beatles decisero di non permettere la ripresa filmata delle loro esibizioni, rendendo ancora più raro e affascinante il ricordo di quell’evento. Nel 1966 il fenomeno della Beatlemania era ancora enorme, ma il rapporto dei Beatles con i concerti stava ormai cambiando profondamente. Le urla del pubblico rendevano quasi impossibile ascoltare la musica sul palco e il gruppo iniziava a concentrarsi sempre di più sul lavoro in studio, dove da lì a poco avrebbe dato vita a capolavori rivoluzionari.
