I believe it was writing about literature (ENG302). We read Norman McLean and Sherman Alexie among some others, and it was the first time I recognized writing/storytelling as a possible career path for me.
My biggest teacher fear when incorporating new literacies into my classroom is that I will show a meme totally out of touch with my studentsđ However, I do think that this fear emphasizes how important it is for teachers to also keep up with their students interests #ENG302
haha love this! I appreciate how the texts establish literacy as the consumption and understanding of knowledge rather than visually observing or producing texts. #eng302
I am also reminded that (social) media has become integral to building community and fostering solidarity. teaching digital literacy means teaching students how to collectively organize and challenge systems of oppression. #eng302
about to tweet a thread of some #ENG302 things! partially because itâs a required assignment but mostly because I live to make all of you wish you were education majorsđ
People in the industry of education are scared of implementing technology into the classroom because itâs dangerous and will corrupt the youth⊠then why are you carrying a computer in your pocket as an educator? #ENG302
Iâve been feeling weird with having to read about ethnic communities in such an academic way. Are you feeling this too?? Like itâs as if society has planted a bug in my brain to feel awkward about talking about my ethnicity and others in an academic setting #whack#ENG302
The role of the internet and social media in the classrooms interests me. Specifically, the kids using Twitter to interact with parents is a neat idea to bridge school and home-life, so long as itâs regulated. #ENG302
Regarding the study that found â65% of the time children spent âreadingâ was actually spent in non-reading activitiesâ: as a kid in school, I rarely read for substance and retention. I âreadâ so time would pass and I could go to gym. #ENG302
Reading about Young-Rivera teaching 4th/5th graders about code switching is a really good example of how to effectively teach kids complex concepts like linguistic racism, especially considering many many adults still refuse to accept that code-switching isnât desirable #ENG302
Talking about âstudents struggling between wanting the freedom to be and express themselves but recognizing that they still stand the chance of being misjudged by society at large if they do (102)â is way too common of an experience for students everywhere #ENG302
Reading in âNew Literaciesâ how schools with poor students see teaching technological literacy as âextraâ is disgusting. Schools preach helping students achieve class mobility, yet arenât willing to actually teach poor kids about the Internet in ways that could help them? #ENG302
I definitely agree! And I think these issues need to be discussed not only when itâs âtrendyâ, but at all times. POC face real violence and discrimination every day. Not just summer of 2020 #ENG302
