According to @usedgov data: ~1/3 of kids (mis)labeled 'disabled' under IDEA have a 'specific learning disability'—and study after study shows ~85% of those are reading-based (i.e., dyslexia). So yeah, what we're really talking about is a system too lazy and ableist to teach reading properly, so it slaps a disability label on the fallout, without any care or careful consideration for the children, families, communities, or societal impact. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Reform EdPrep, and revise & reauthorize the federal IDEA… OR Shut. It. All. Down., and fund STUDENTS—not corrupt, ignorant, and ableist systems, politicians, bureaucrats, educrats, teachers’ unions, etc.
It’s not so much about a pushback on educating our students with disabilities as it’s a frustration of why educating special education students has to compromise the education of general education students so much.

In late February, educator preparation leaders from across the nation gathered at the @AACTE annual conference to share the innovations shaping the future of teaching. The Charles Butt Foundation extends great pride towards Helen Berg and Ashley Brittain from the @SamHoustonState team. Their impactful work on understanding the perspectives of novice teachers, conducted in collaboration with @OLLUnivSATX and @UTAustin @uteachaustin, was supported by the Raising Texas Teachers initiative. We are proud to celebrate the great work of our partners as we continue to elevate the teaching profession together!
