According to
@usedgov data: ~1/3 of kids (mis)labeled 'disabled' under IDEA have a 'specific learning disability'—and study after study shows ~85% of those are reading-based (i.e., dyslexia).
So yeah, what we're really talking about is a system too lazy and ableist to teach reading properly, so it slaps a disability label on the fallout, without any care or careful consideration for the children, families, communities, or societal impact. 🤦🏼♀️
Reform EdPrep, and revise & reauthorize the federal IDEA…
OR
Shut. It. All. Down., and fund STUDENTS—not corrupt, ignorant, and ableist systems, politicians, bureaucrats, educrats, teachers’ unions, etc.
It’s not so much about a pushback on educating our students with disabilities as it’s a frustration of why educating special education students has to compromise the education of general education students so much.
