Please report on how many foreign companies are there. The trick is to not become an entrepot-economy, to not allow foreign corporations be in charge. This requires very careful management and negotiation, which I'm afraid Americans aren't up to. #CopyTheWinnersStopBeingALoser.

Or see fleshed out which kingdoms are special as far as what they provide for the WG. Like how say compare to real world British Empire, India fuelled the Empire's cotton supply, Singapore was a major trade entrepot, Diamonds from South Africa and Nambia.

Historians are only now beginning to realise the huge importance that India exerted over thousands of years. But there has been collateral damage to other historic areas. Phoenician historians usually concentrate on the Mediterranean while totally neglecting the route to India - the Red Sea and its important archaeological sites. The result is that two of antiquity's most remarkable engineering achievements remain almost entirely unknown. The Great Marib Dam was a 700-metre stone-faced embankment built in the 8th century BC. It irrigated 72 square kilometres of desert and triggered an agricultural revolution that fed a kingdom which Pliny described as having "the richest races in the world." The Cisterns of Tawila, known locally as the Aden Tanks, were even more ingenious. Fifty-three interconnecting stone tanks, fitted with sluices and overflows, held 20 million gallons of rainwater. They turned a hostile rockface at the mouth of the Red Sea into a comfortable, cosmopolitan trading city. Both were almost certainly built by Phoenicians. The same century that saw Marib rise also saw the Sabaeans adopt a Phoenician script. Hiram of Tyre and Solomon of Israel were running joint-venture voyages from the Gulf of Aqaba to India along that exact route. Phoenician engineers had built Sidon's harbour and worked on Sennacherib's canals in Mesopotamia. They were the engineering consultants of the ancient world. By the time of the Roman Empire, tax on this trade route to India via the Red Sea accounted for nearly half of the Roman Empire’s revenue. The dam broke during the Persian invasion of 575 AD. Fifty thousand people abandoned the area. Sand covered fields that had once produced two harvests a year. Trade continued in smaller volumes. The Cairo Geniza letters show Egyptian Jews using Aden as their main hub for Indian trade between the 9th and 12th centuries. Al-Muqaddasi called it "the ante-room of China, entrepot of Yemen, treasury of the west." Ibn al-Mujawir counted 70 to 80 ships a year transiting the port. Today, Yemen cannot maintain either site. The replacement Marib Dam was built in 1986 by the UAE's Sheikh Zayed, not the Yemeni government. Half the country's water grows qat. The masterpieces sit unloved and largely unstudied. Compare Dubai. A fishing creek a few decades ago, now home to Jebel Ali, one of the largest container ports on earth. Same region. Same maritime heritage. Radically different outcomes. These sites deserve fresh archaeological work using modern methods. When a country forgets its maritime past, it is the prelude to failure. The link to the full essay is below.

Such analysis is spot on Also the support given to SYKES picot neighbors of Gaza thru investments & returns would diminish & O&G revenue would become free from hidden networks of entrepot economies
Iran’s fundamental mistake is that it believes this war is not existential for the US. This war is existential for the so called American pact aka Pax Americana. The pact in which the US provided investments, military protection, and a very sophisticated financial infrastructure. In return, the other participants focused on what they could do best. The division of labor, and comparative advantage: China: high quality labor, GCC Arabs: cheap and reliable energy, etc. As part of the pact, any excess capital from these participants would get invested in US financial markets, primarily in the form US treasuries, but also venture capital (eg Saudi money in Softbank), and other instruments. This did two things: 1-Lower the cost of capital in the US. This meant lower interest rates, higher stock market, more money available for startups, lower housing costs, and many other things. 2-The invested capital served as a hostage, a guarantee of good behavior by those in the system, which supplied some level of stability to the pact. The US could theoretically seize or freeze the assets of any misbehaving participants. Parts of this pact have already been going away. China is not a US satellite state or even a partner. It is a competitor, building its own pact in the form of Belt and Road Initiative. It is also reducing its exposure to US treasuries and increasing its gold reserves. If the US loses its dominance over the Persian gulf, another part of this pact will break. The GCC Arab states have lost their protection, while still having a hostage in the US. That’s an incentive to reduce their exposure and diversify their assets out of the US. It will also send a signal to everyone else in US orbit that the military protection is not available anymore. As these orbit states reduce their exposure to US assets, the cost of capital in the US will rise: higher interest rates, lower stock market, higher home financing costs, fewer startups, etc. Furthermore, the US has $31T public debt, with average maturity of 5.9 years. As the interest rates rise, the cost of rolling over this debt is going to rise. Last but not least, there’s about $1.6T in additional debt that gets added every year, which will be paying higher interest. As the debt/GDP ratio rises, the feedback loop kicks in: the US has to pay a higher interest rate to keep the same investor. This is why the loss of the Persian Gulf is so significant for the US. I might write a later post about the effect of rates on debt financing.

Well theres multiple problems with this. Hong Kong's industrial economy was (was) because its practically gone now was based on light manufacturing not heavy manufacturing. Hong Kong was also a tiny entrepot without a massive rural population.

A quick AI search says that there is only a 1-4% intermarriage rate between Flemish and Walloons, this after almost 200 years of political unity. Considering the conservative disposition on such matter amongst the Belgium people how could anybody have considered it a good idea to make Brussels an entrepot of mass Maghreb migration. It's amazing that Belgium has held together this long.
