14/6/26 - Parlementaire enquête COVID19 : waarom zwijgt de commissie over de Nederlandse banden met het omstreden EcoHealth en Wuhan? Terwijl de parlementaire enquêtecommissie braaf voor “lessen leren” gaat en vooral wil weten hoe Den-Haag beter kan communiceren bij een volgende crisis, laat ze de échte vragen over de herkomst van corona ongemoeid. Dat is niet alleen opmerkelijk, het is een regelrechte misser. Want in het hart van het internationale web rond SARS-CoV-2 ligt een Amerikaanse non-profit met directe Nederlandse vingerafdrukken: EcoHealth Alliance van Peter Daszak. EcoHealth presenteert zich als brave organisatie die zoönosen – ziektes van dier op mens – wil voorkomen via het vage “One Health”-concept. In de praktijk fungeerde de club jarenlang als doorgeefluik voor Amerikaanse subsidiegelden naar risicovol onderzoek in het Wuhan Institute of Virology. Daszak, de Britse zoöloog aan het hoofd, coördineerde daar onderzoek naar vleermuizen-coronavirussen. Precies het soort werk dat verdacht veel lijkt op de voorloper van het virus dat de wereld platlegde. Het Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, en dan vooral de afdeling Viroscience onder leiding van viroloog @MarionKoopmans, is nog steeds officiële partner van EcoHealth Alliance. Dat staat gewoon op hun eigen website. Koopmans en Daszak werkten jarenlang nauw samen in dezelfde internationale netwerken: One Health, WHO-projecten, PREDICT-achtige programma’s. In 2021 zaten ze zelfs samen in het WHO-team dat de oorsprong van corona in Wuhan onderzocht. Hun conclusie? Een lab-leak was “extremely unlikely”. Meer onderzoek naar wilde dieren dan maar. Ze publiceerden samen, verschenen op dezelfde conferenties en verdedigden consequent de natuurlijke-oorsprongtheorie. Intussen minimaliseerden ze het lab-leakscenario in de media en voor de Nederlandse publieke opinie. Logisch dat veel Nederlanders zich nu afvragen: hoe onafhankelijk was dat oordeel eigenlijk, als je partner bent van de organisatie die het risicovolle onderzoek in Wuhan mee financierde? @ErasmusMC is bovendien WHO Collaborating Centre voor emerging viral infections. Koopmans adviseert over pandemievoorbereiding. Kortom: ze zaten aan tafel waar het gebeurde. De gedachte dat men daar “niets van wist” is naïef. De banden waren te hecht, de gedeelde missies te talrijk. De parlementaire enquêtecommissie, met namen als Daan de Kort, Songül Mutluer, Huib de Kooper, André Poortman en Anja Lammers, lijkt dit hele netwerk straal te negeren. In plaats van keiharde waarheidsvinding over mogelijke belangenverstrengeling, wetenschappelijke misstanden en de rol van Nederlandse topinstellingen, blijft het bij een gezellige rondetafel over crisiscommunicatie. Alsof de herkomst van de pandemie die miljarden kostte en tienduizenden Nederlanders het leven kostte, een detail is. Dat is geen “lessen leren”. Dat is wegkijken. Terwijl de feiten over EcoHealth, Daszak en de Chinese lab-connecties zich opstapelen, houdt Den-Haag zich bezig met het gladstrijken van procedures. De Nederlandse burger verdient beter. Our lovable KISSians, who were part of the 20 KIIT and KISS students selected under the fully funded Erasmus KA171 Student Mobility Programme at the University of Craiova, Romania, returned to the KISS campus today and were given a warm welcome by the KISS family. During their stay in Romania, they represented India, Odisha, Santali language and tribal culture on an international platform. They performed Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet in Santali language at the International Shakespeare Festival, where participants from over 30 countries witnessed and appreciated their talent. After their return, they also had the privilege of meeting the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji, who appreciated their participation and performances. They also performed at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, before a distinguished gathering of more than 500 people, including over 200 ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats. KISS is proud of its students. Their journey from KISS to Romania and back is a beautiful example of how education, opportunity and confidence can take tribal children to the global stage. Heartiest congratulations to all our students. May they continue to make KISS, Odisha and India proud.
