sorry, but her making edits wouldn’t stop others from liking fanart if they wanted to. by that logic ppl making video edits would be “unfair” to animators, when it’s just another form of fancreation. you tying getting likes to the worth of sth should not be made Anna’s issue.

Tbh, as an artist, it does make me a little sad to see traced edits receive more attention and appreciation than artwork that was created entirely from scratch. Open to other perspectives tho..

I think what is important here is that LWJ is a canon character while LWY is a fan creation.
It is inevitable that a fan creation tailored to a fandom/subset of a fandom's tastes will outperform canon characters in terms of likability to that subset (so long as they are open to fan creations!) -- especially when said canon characters are perceived to be at odds with the canon version of the fan creation in question. Canon!LWJ is perceived as being at odds with canon!JC so fanCreation!LWY will be more likable to his fans even if he has the same traits canon!LWJ might be docked for.
Lan Wangji can only be what is on the page; a hypothetical Lan Wanyin can be anything a fan dreams up.
There's also the matter that fan creations are often a way to vent frustration at canon material OR to expand on crumbs of canon that highlight a specific character/circumstance/etc. LWJ being "boring" but a made up character like LWY in his place being likable could be a way of exploring a favorite character while dealing with frustration with LWJ's canon personality and actions.
All that said, yes, it can be frustrating to see your canon fave compared unfavorably to a fan creation, especially when that fan creation borrows a lot from your fave. It can seem hypocritical and like antagonism. I think remembering that most fan creations exist in a sort of circlejerked space custom designed to cater to a group of fans helps.
And before anyone gets mad, all fandom involves circlejerking of some kind. It's not a bad thing. It IS a thing though. And that's okay <3
