Juče je bilo Sretenje, dan kada je 1804. srpski narod ustao u svoj prvi ustanak protiv Turaka, predvođen voždom Karađorđem. Njegoš tj. vladika Rade bio je fasciniran Karađorđem i dizao ga u visine (i mimo njegove realne zasluge budući da je ustanak propao) zbog toga što se nakon vjekovnog ropstva srpskog naroda našao neko ko će ih ujediniti i povesti u organizovan ustanak protiv Osmanskog carstva. Njegoševo divljenje Karađorđu ide do tih granica da mu je posvetio njegovo djelo Gorski vijenac koje se upravo otvara Posvetom prahu oca Srbije, tj. posveti umrlom Karađorđu. Njegoš Karađorđa izjednačava sa velikim vojskovođama toga doba i veli: "Al’ heroju topolskome, Karađorđu besmrtnome, sve prepone na put bjehu, k cilju dospje velikome: diže narod, krsti zemlju, a varvarske lance sruši, iz mrtvijeh Srba dozva, dunu život srpskoj duši." Za Njegoša Srbi prije Karađorđa su snom mrtvijem spavali, a srpska duša nije imala života. Ovo je jedan od glavnih momenata đe Njegoš odvaja Srbe od Crnogoraca. Karađorđe je 1804. digao PRVI srpski ustanak, udahnuo život srpskoj duši, dokle je na Cetinju, glava Mahmut paše Bušatlije pośečena na Krusima osam godina ranije već bila uveliko strulila. Njegoševa fascinacija počinje i završava Karađorđem. On je bio fasciniran njime kao pojedincem i njegovoj smjelosti, a ne njegovim manje uspješnim ustankom niti njegovim narodom. Njegoš će isto reći Simi Sarajliji u jednom njihovom razgovoru: „Ada čoče, Božija ti vjera, znam ja tu veselu Srbadiju, no kud su joj ti sinovi junaci bili, dok joj nije Bog dao Karađorđa. Ta vi svi tamo fastate jednoga njega junaštvom; a kad vi Bog njega uze između vas, a vi sve sunovrat u turski jaram opet! No kršina i siromašna Crna Gora ne haje ni za Nemanje ni za Murate ni za Bunaparte; oni svi biše i preminuše, a Crna Gora ostade dovijeka i strašnoga suda, u svojoj volji i slobodi; a to ti je u slavi“ Danas, kada vidim da neki iz Crne Gore slave Sretenje kao opšti praznik, ne ulazi mi u glavu da prihvataju slavljenje poraza, a zanemaruju slavnu pobjedničku istoriju vlastitih predaka.
