We recently experienced this.
My wife applied for a role here in the U.S. with a great organization. On the Friday before her start date, she hadn’t received any details about her first day, so she reached out to HR.
They replied that her background check was still pending because the company handling it hadn’t heard back from her university in Nigeria for over a month. Without confirming her degree, she couldn’t start the role.
Omoh… it felt like a movie 😩
We started calling people we knew at the university. Someone even went there in person, only to be told the person in charge wasn’t around. It was really frustrating. We had to look for alternatives.
Moving forward, I honestly don’t pray any organization needs to verify anything from Nigeria before approval… I really don’t… your destiny is basically on the line and no one cares in that country!
