Our RCT of Rising Academies' FasterReading program in Liberia is now published in the Journal of Development Effectiveness.
We evaluated an accelerated, phonics-based reading program across 74 schools in 10 Liberian counties for (7 years) early childhood education (ECE) students. Here's what we found
🔤 36% increase in reading scores (0.28 SDs)
🙋 15% increase in attendance
🟰 Similar impacts across boys, girls, and different initial reading levels
💸 Cost-effective: 0.91 SD gains per $100
This reading score effect size ranks in the 75th-80th percentile of educational interventions targeting learning, showing potential for phonics-based instruction for ECE students in Liberia!

At the end of the 12 week project:
One Year 7 group (high prior attaining) made 6 months progress in their reading, compared to the control group.
