Day 01
Product management 101
Let’s talk feature prioritization.
🚀 Diving into the art of feature prioritization.
Feature prioritization is the process of deciding which features or functionalities to develop and implement first in a product roadmap.
It involves evaluating and ranking different features based on factors like user needs, business goals, and resource constraints.
The goal is to focus on the most critical and impactful features that align with the overall product strategy.
Several methods can be used for feature prioritization, ranging from simple frameworks to more complex models.
The chosen approach depends on the nature of the product, the target audience, and the specific goals of the development team.
Effective feature prioritization ensures that limited resources are allocated to the most valuable and impactful aspects of a product, enhancing its overall success and user satisfaction.
Let’s look at some popular prioritization frameworks:
We will pick one each day and have a deep dive.
1️⃣ **MoSCoW Method (Must-haves, Should-haves, Could-haves, Won't-haves):** Like a product map, it guides you through essentials to wish-list items. 🗺️ Prioritize the "Must-haves" for a robust foundation.
2️⃣ **Kano Model:** Sorts features into Basic Needs, Performance Needs, and Excitement Needs. 📈 Basic: A stable app; Performance: Faster load times; Excitement: Augmented reality features for the wow factor.
3️⃣ **RICE Scoring (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort):** A data-driven approach. Rate features on these criteria. For instance, an in-app tutorial might have high reach, impact, and confidence but low effort.
4️⃣ **Eisenhower Matrix:** Classify features into Urgent-Important, Important-Not Urgent, Urgent-Not Important, and Not Urgent-Not Important. Nail the urgent & important first, like fixing critical bugs.
5️⃣ **Stack Ranking:** Direct and simple. Prioritize features by importance, creating a clear pecking order. Think of it as ranking dishes on a menu based on popularity.
💡
Remember, mix and match these strategies based on your product, user needs, and business goals.
