The two suspects were arrested during an operation conducted in Claremont as well as in Malvern. Police officers from Pinetown Trio Task team as well as KwaDabeka Field Unit followed up on information provided by Crime Intelligence on suspects who were wanted for cases of kidnapping and extortion which were committed around the Pinetown policing precinct. On the evening of Tuesday night hard work by police officers paid off when they arrested the first suspect in Clermont and the second suspect was arrested in Malvern. The second suspect he was found in possession of two vehicles and a replica firearm that are suspected to have been used during the commission of the crimes. #sapsMP #SAPS Mpumalanga Organised Crime members have arrested three suspects, aged between 46 and 60, for #extortion in connection with a case reported in Kwaggafontein in 2025, Amongst them is a prominent businessman. The suspects were arrested in the early hours of today, Tuesday 12/05, in the provinces of Gauteng and Mpumalanga respectively. It is alleged that the suspects demanded money from a businessman over an extended period of time until he reported the matter at Kwaggafontein Police Station. The case was referred to the SAPS Mpumalanga Organised Crime Unit for further investigation, which led to the arrests. Police reports indicate that Provincial Combat team members were following information about suspects involved in the extortion of businesses in the area when a vehicle with occupants fitting the description was spotted. Through intelligence methodologies and technology, the suspects' cellphones were traced and it was also established that the suspects operate in Jeppe hostel, Nancefield hostel and Mzimhlophe hostel in Soweto. On 17/01, the team promptly operationalised the information and four suspects were traced and arrested at Jeppe Hostel. Further investigations linked the suspects to two more kidnapping cases opened last year in Jeppe and Diepsloot.
