Class A fires are caused by ordinary combustible materials, such as cloth, wood, paper, etc. and can be put out by water.
Class B fires caused flammable liquids, eg. Petrol, diesel. These can be put out by powder, and extinguishers. One shouldn’t apply water to class B fires

The last type is class F and these are typically kitchen fires. These can be put out by limiting oxygen. Eg. Covering a saucepan with fire with another saucepan. One can also use a wet towel or blanket to cover the saucepan
