Currently working at one of the more selective law firms, I have spent almost 4 years gaining experience with senior advocates, firms, peers from my batch, and independent practitioners. Before I left, I was part of a 3,000-strong community here where we shared stories, supported each other, and figured out the legal world together. I am happy to be back. If we have crossed paths in Delhi (4S included 😆), in Bombay, or if you have ever seen me reading at the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre library (or grabbing a quick bite at their cafÊ), or if we have met in court, please say hi below. For the younger lawyers and students, let me know what you would like to see here, legal updates, tips on internships, insights on early matters, or just honest talks about mental peace in litigation. Let us make this a helpful space again. #LawTwitter #FirstGenLaw

In all these years of full time law teaching I never attended a graduation either because I was out of town, COVID, so this is my first law school graduation as a law professor. So I'm modeling my gown. #FirstGenLaw

A student shared with me his acceptance to a paid summer law fellowship. These are the joys of teaching. #FirstGenLaw

I understand the point here, which is class privilege, but many BIPOC folks are first gen because race, immigration status poses separate barriers that even economic privileges do not override. Name precise privileges but #FIrstGenLaw encompasses wide experiences.

Not sure what prompted me to share but it felt organic, authentic. I suppose I imagine there is a student in my class feeling similarly. Its also seemed important to me to demystify this process of legal education. #firstgenlaw

I am grateful 🙏 to Dean Hall who I'm convinced but can't prove, sat on my withdrawal form, and other professors who went out of their way to make sure I remained, and others after graduation who showed up even before I knew how to ask for support. #firstgenlaw

I still find law alienating but I've learned to navigate things better, I hope. I suppose sharing this ambivalence of law is to let students know that we even as professors share their frustrations. #firstgenlaw

Law school, even with best professors which I had at @nusl, was still an alienating experience. I couldn't connect what I was learning to issues/people I care about. I felt I was losing myself in this system. I was feeling distanced from my immigrant family #firstgenlaw

Thinking back to my 2L summer internship at a company when I told someone I wasn't sure if I wanted to ultimately do in-house or out-house counsel. Not outside counsel. #firstgenlaw #lawtwitter

I made this because it's something I would have wanted my first year. But I was too embarrassed to ask. I assumed everyone else knew. They don't. Trust me. #firstgenlaw

I’ve always compensated for being a #firstgenlaw student in school through research. However I’ve reached a point where I now see how having family would be a huge help because I can’t really research my way out of understand firm culture. So #lawtwitter what’s your best advice?
