PM here talking about how he campaigned pre-internet. But it's not either/or. Eg the successful
#Fix800Bus movement did both. Modern social media and 'old-fashioned' bus stop conversations, direct mail & media with local newspapers. Prob true for other successful campaigns too.
The PM here makes a valid point about how he used to politically organise. However, in 2024, a new media platform effectively deplatformed the world the PM comes from.
Podcasts and non-legacy media were the true game-changers in the US election, highlighting a seismic shift in how audiences engage with political content. Spending millions on traditional advertising is increasingly ineffective, akin to flushing money down the toilet.
Younger generations like Gen Z and Millennials, along with many older Australians, have fragmented viewing habits and largely dismiss traditional political advertising or it simply never reachers them. They watch what they trust!
Hence, the proposed donation caps wont be the fix the major parties hope they will be. You don’t need a lot of $ to reach people.
