Several weeks after their botched attempt to tax online grassroots gigs ridiculous amounts, then their U turn after outcry, we finally receive notice after trying to apply for @PRSforMusic online license that not only do they not exist they don’t know how they work either #FixPRS

It’s now been nearly a week since the @PRSforMusic U turn where they announced artists could apply for a free license, yet despite several emails to the address they provided to get one there is still no response. Absolute contempt for their members @musicvenuetrust #FixPRS

Day 6 of the @PRSforMusic Online Tariff Debacle.
Number of events cancelled now running into 1000s across many months, performers and songwriters losing work and money, no on knows what to do, PRS silent.
No licencees = no licence fees #fixPRS

Even if they backtrack on this particular license, I think this is inevitable if @PRSforMusic can’t (or won’t) overhaul the entire rights management structure to encompass how artists make and distribute, and people consume music nowadays. #FixPRS #BrokenPRS

Have spoken to a lot of music artists large and small over the weekend, from former @glastonbury headliners to those starting out. Consensus building that they should de register their works from @PRSforMusic and seek alternative rights handling that works in a #digitalmusic age

Our entire reason for being as LTYLR is to create a revenue stream for arts professionals at a time when we’ve all had the rug pulled from under our feet. If @PRSforMusic is really acting for it’s members it needs to *support* the work we do instead of taxing it. #FixPRS

Actually it's not a 9-18% license ... because they add VAT ... so effectively they're charging 27% of gross ticket sales for a small show that only takes £100. And it's 54% of the takings for a live streaming gig that only makes £50 in donations from viewers.

Having said that, the 12 hour thing isn’t an issue for us as we don’t record *anything*... but it does mean we are paying for the right to record and broadcast it for twelve hours which is completely unnecessary for our business model. We ought to be licensed as a venue. #FixPRS

Found something interesting in the small print of the @PRSforMusic license... you’re only allowed to make the concert available for 12 hours; if you want it up for longer you need *another* license. So - for example - @Bellowhead’s 30 concert pass would not be allowed. #FixPRS

If you pay yourself £768,000 a year, £22.50 plus vat isn’t very much. It’s only 0.0036% of the salary of the CEO of PRS. So you can understand why PRS wouldn’t think it would make a difference. #fixPRS

To be clear, everyone in agreement songwriters should be paid fairly. What people are questioning is HOW this is collected, & whether a private company is best to do this. They are really performing a public service. But no accountability. Maybe time to #NationalisePRS? #FixPRS

This stat alone should say it all @PRSforMusic- 152 people lost paid work during #IVW21 because of your ill-conceived & destructive decision, and this will only continue until you fix it. Anyone who hasn’t watched @IVW_UK excellent panel yesterday go watch it now #FIXprs

Since @PRSforMusic are staying silent and there is no clear legal authority or mandate from their members for this additional charge, surely it is time to start asking @CommonsDCMS to investigate this out of control monopoly that is going against interest of its members? #FixPRS
