🌿🌏 World Environment Day 2026 Celebrated at BSI, Solan 🌏🌿
The Botanical Survey of India, High Altitude Western Himalayan Regional Centre (HAWHRC), Solan, Himachal Pradesh, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 on 5 June under the global theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
In line with the vision of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and under the guidance of Dr. Kanad Das, Director, BSI, the Centre organized a Tree Plantation Drive under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and an Inter-School Sit & Draw Competition, bringing together young minds to express their commitment to environmental conservation.
The programme was graced by Dr. Dharampal Sharma, Director, Directorate of Extension Education, YSP University, Nauni, as Chief Guest and Dr. Ajay Sharma, Assistant Professor, YSP University, Nauni, as Special Guest.
Under the leadership of Dr. Kumar Ambrish, Scientist-F & Head of Office, and coordinated by Dr. Kuldip Singh Dogra, Scientist-E, the event highlighted the urgent need for climate action, biodiversity conservation, and pollution reduction. Speakers emphasized the role of students and communities in protecting nature and creating a sustainable future.
Students from four schools enthusiastically participated in the Sit & Draw Competition, showcasing their awareness and creativity on environmental themes. Prizes and refreshments were distributed to all participants.
The successful celebration was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the entire staff of BSI-HAWHRC, Solan, and the support of invited guest Mrs. Shalini Chauhan.
