Whom God set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins of that are past, through the forbearance of God;
—Romans 3:25 KJV
Note: Propitiation is the mercy seat, and the place of reconciliation or atonement. That is who the Father made Christ to be on the cross. This gospel declares that God was NOT, nor is He now, just overlooking sins, or ignoring sins in the past (ie Old Testament), but has exacted justice and judgment of sin, in the body of Christ. The punishment we deserved, and do deserve now, the Lord Jesus Christ has already absorbed in Himself. That is remission. No man will ever be able to accuse God of anything unjust, where it be His great mercy towards sinners (ie forbearance), nor His future wrath upon them that reject the blood atonement of Christ.
