Depends a bit on the scale of the project. We use forestscanner, the 3d scanner app (which we use most) and sitescape. An optimal app with all features helpful for specimen collection remains yet to be programmed!

We mapped all trees in the sampled populations using #LIDAR and #forestScanner app. Just an amazing tool for forest ecologists.

Q: How accurate is ForestScanner in mapping trees?
> In terms of relative coordinates, R2 = 0.99 compared with MapStar Impulse 200.
ForestScanner uses the iPhone/iPad's built-in IMU and a customized correction algorithm developed by @yamaguchi_mapry to achieve high accuracy.

First outing with #arborealforest and #forestscanner, lidar based dbh measurements on phone! Both seem to be working well on a rainy Argyll day, much quicker than tapes, calipers. Thanks @ShinichiTatsumi

I had a lot of fun trying the new ForestScanner app by @yamaguchi_mapry and @ShinichiTatsumi. This was done in a spruce stand. It uses the iPad Pro LiDAR and the results are quite impressive. I haven’t cross-validates the results yet but I am confident they should be good.

ForestScanner かなりすごい。最初一律に高さ130cm での直径だすとズレが大きい木が2本あったが、よくみると低いところで枝分かれが起きている。そういう木については、もっと低い位置を指定して直径だせば、誤差が 数cmに収まる。そこも自動化して、樹種判別もやってくれたらもう完璧。
