Argentina is sitting on a national treasure called Vaca Muerta: it holds the second largest unconventional natural gas reserve and the fourth-largest oil reserve globally. In a rare, "bare it all" interview with H.E.@MCTettamanti, the country's Secretary of Energy, we have been told that a lack of investment in the country's natural gas infrastructure affected millions of Argentines who, unable to access natural gas, had to rely on more expensive or less reliable alternatives. Ms Tettamanti also said that "rebuilding a devastated energy sector is not achievable through a single measure or in a matter of months. It requires consistency, coordination, and above all, political determination to maintain the course." The Argentinian Government is sending clear and unequivocal signals of regulatory reform to the international investment community, and there is little doubt that its commitment is 100%: "this is the path we have chosen, and it is the only way to ensure that natural gas – a vital resource for Argentina’s economic competitiveness and quality of life – reaches its full potential." Japan's LNG market has evolved from rigid, oil-indexed long-term contracts toward greater flexibility, shorter tenures, and destination-free clauses, with greater shares of spot and short-term LNG trade. Japan also transitioned from the largest LNG importer to a market influencer and portfolio player, while LNG PCC has become one of the key players shaping global LNG strategies. LNG is reaffirmed as a critical component of energy security and decarbonisation, especially for Asia, where coal to natural gas switching remains a major emissions reduction strategy.
