Great to hear it, Briant! I am absolutely not surprised. My gut feeling was accurate I was fishing mostly between ages 10-15 when I was spending summers with my grandparents in the Russian countryside. It was no fancy, they’re poor people. My granddad had boats and cast nets in a nearby lake (it was illegal so he had to pay fines). But mostly it was homemade fishing rods. My granddad and uncles would make those out of tree branches. It wasn’t too bad - you make it nice & smooth, then attach the fishing line, a bobber & a hook. Mostly earthworms are used as bait. There used to be a lot of fish when I was a kid. I enjoyed bringing buckets of it home. Perch, pike, crucian, bream, gobio, roach. Rudd is very common in those places. Sometimes ruff. Burbot is different - you gotta find that guy under rocks and use a fork.
