Good to see Isle of Wight and Hampshire shown on the map for Jutish migration. Evidence suggests that the early settlers of Hastings-known as the Haestingas-were also Jutish migrants, in a sea of South Saxons (Sussex).

Paula Lofting Searching for the Last Anglo-Saxon King: Harold Godwinson, England's Golden Warrior Saturday 15th March, from 10am Harold Godwinson's role in English history has always been overshadowed by his failure to defend his crown and country against the might of William the Conqueror. Reigning for just ten months, Harold's accomplishments were undermined by the Norman propaganda that was waged against his memory, long after his grisly end in 1066. Author Paula Lofting will be signing her book all day in the shop on the 15 March and giving a talk in the evening starting 18:30 - 21:00, with a spectacular arms display by Haestingas Reenactment group. This is a private launch, but Paula has very kindly said that any of our customers who are interested (and who wouldn't be?!) are very welcome to come along. Please let us know if you are planning to come (01342 322669). eastgrinsteadbookshop.co.uk/… #booksigning #history #livinghistory @bbcsoutheast @BBCSussex @EG_Courier @EG_Museum @JohnPye7 @penswordbooks
