"One thing that stands out are the countless numbers of Broadway debuts that have taken place. For most stage actors Broadway is the pinnacle, the apex, the often dreamed-of and not always achieved. They are so excited when that day comes. We celebrate them with a "hands-on" welcome in the basement right before their first show. We breath collectively and pass energy back and forth. At the end, we shout, "to the revolution" and then the show starts. They've worked hard to get to that milestone. We welcome them to the HamFam. We are an incredible team of 80 people backstage - actors, crew, musicians, stage managers. We all make it happen together. As a community.
I love that the audiences are so excited to see the show. Their day, their moment, there time has finally come. There is so much energy in the house right before we start. So many years in, most of them know every word. many have seen it numerous times. Some are now bringing their children who were too you (or not even born) when we first opened. My job as the Company Manager involves dealing with the day-to-day business affairs of running the show - payroll, union benefits, paying bills, travel arrangements, etc. It's all details coordination. It's not something that the audience thinks about. Nor should they. But when I stand at the back of the beautiful Richard Rodgers theatre at the end of the show, and the audience erupts into applause and cheers, I know that my efforts have helped them enjoy the show. I am so very proud to be a part of the groundbreaking and thrilling Broadway musical. It is fun to come to work every day."
