In Jigawa State, approximately 1 in 300 people live with HIV, a rate well below Nigeria’s national average of 1.3%. While this is a promising sign, the fight is far from over. Now more than ever, we must step up efforts to keep these numbers low and protect more lives from the shadow of this virus. Recently, a pivotal High-Level Technical Review Meeting, led by Deputy Governor Engr. Aminu Usman was held to strengthen protocols aimed at keeping HIV rates low in the state and supporting those affected. The focus was on refining the HIV Sustainability Manual and the HIV Trust Fund Terms of Reference (ToR). Key stakeholders, including the Honourable Commissioner of Health and Directors from JPHCDA, SMOH, and other critical departments, convened alongside partners from NEPWHAN and JISACA. The meeting yielded promising results, setting clear milestones: the HIV Sustainability Manual will launch in September 2024, and the HIV Trust Fund will be established by October 2024. As an organisation, we are proud to be part of this journey, supporting the enrollment of vulnerable individuals into the State Health Insurance Scheme ensuring continued access to care and protection.
