@IITHyderabad and #Simpliforge Creations have partnered with Lt. Col. Arun Krishnan of the Indian Army and a graduate of IIT Hyderabad to deliver India’s first on-site 3D printed protective structure in Leh. The team collaborated on Project PRABAL (Portable Robotic Arm for the Construction of Bunkers and AnciLlaries) for on-site printing of an advanced protective structure in a remote access location under high altitude low oxygen (HALO) conditions. Prof. K.V.L. Subramaniam and his team from IIT Hyderabad and Simpliforge Creations collaborated to develop printing technology for operating in low oxygen environments and extreme exposure conditions. The structure includes geometric features for enhanced ballistic and blast protection. The form-optimized structure that offers enhanced protection was produced using local materials in ten days over fourteen hours of printing time. This project demonstrates the application of Indigenous technology for rapidly deployable structures adopting additive manufacturing principles on-site construction in forward areas, thereby increasing defense preparedness.
