But is there a possibility that they could have given Surya a bit more time? If they felt he wasn't an automatic selection anymore, could he have been given that big England series to prove once again as a batter that he belongs in that place?
Can we put ourselves in his shoes? Has there ever been an instance where a captain who won the T20 World Cup was left out without being given an ultimatum? I'm sure there has been communication, and I have no doubts about that.
But this is quite a landmark day in selection, if you ask me, because it will be taken as some sort of precedent the next time such a situation comes up.
