Monopolizing? Starlink is the only real option in many places. But here are the list of competitors: Hughesnet, Viasat, OneWeb, Amazon Leo. Hughesnet is much more expensive than Starlink.

For users in areas with no terrestrial options (relying on traditional GEO satellite like HughesNet/Viasat/Eutelsat), @Starlink delivers an estimated $30–$80 per month in net effective value (performance premium productivity/quality-of-life gains minus any cost difference). Let’s take the lower bound. $30/mo. 12 months. $360/year. In perpetuity. $3,600. Times 7 Billion people. THAT’S $25.2 TRILLION IN VALUE GIVEN TO HUMANITY, AND @elonmusk GAVE $24.2 TRILLION TO EVERYONE ELSE.

Yeah - Hughesnet. DSL speeds at high cost. Woohoo. Tesla - MUSK created the company. Oddly, out of money he made from selling Paypal. Musk didn't create rockets - he made them reusable, which NASA, ULA and Boeing didn't bother thinking about. Brought cost of satellites to orbit down by an order of magnitude. Your other points? Wait - there aren't any, just blather.

Yea, he’s getting paid to “give” the internet to people. I have a colleague that uses Starlink regularly. It’s just expensive but thank goodness there all alternatives now to things like HughesNet and that junk.

The Bad News: The SpaceX ownership claim is factually incorrect. $SATS (EchoStar) does not own a $35 billion stake in SpaceX; they are actually direct competitors in satellite internet (HughesNet vs. Starlink).

Bonnie do you know how much HughesNet charged for their shitty satellite internet ?

I can't believe HughesNet doesn't do a trillion dollars in business

Clearly you've never lived in a rural area where all they had was Hughesnet.

Wrong While satellite communication existed decades earlier, satellite internet first became available to the public in the mid‑1990s, with Hughesnet launching commercial service in 1996 as the first major provider.

Well, Starlink has been a game changer for us. We live in rural TN without adequate internet infrastructure. The only option previously available for us was crappy hughesnet. As soon as starlink became available in our area, we signed up. It's amazing. I'd consider the whole constellation as a service for humanity.
