I will never NOT keep in mind the many, many people we never hear about — those without relatives or friends to fight for justice, whose coroners’ inquiries lack evidence and whose verdicts never get publicised. I campaign for you. #HumanNotPD #DeathsByWelfare #IatrogenicHarm

The spectacle of the witch trial is not so different from some case conferences today: a collective performance of moral panic disguised as assessment and investigation. #HumanNotPD

Just had to type this sentence: “Families should never be told to take their loved one’s suicidality less seriously because they’ve been diagnosed with BPD.” #HumanNotPD

The diagnosis of borderline personality disorder makes someone *more* vulnerable to abuse from professionals because it’s both a social marker that reduces credibility and a clinical frame that can be twisted to hide harm. This is a structural issue. #HumanNotPD #TraumaNotPD

Rejection sensitivity is central to ADHD, autism, and cPTSD. Mental health services rarely understand rejection sensitivity, which is why people in all three diagnostic categories are so often told there is something wrong with their personality. There isn’t. #HumanNotPD

I have tried to go for a walk this morning and I’m struggling to breathe. Now at home in tears at how unwell I feel both physically now and mentally. And to make things worse, I’m getting an emotional flashback of my mental health nurse telling me that because I sent an e-mail that apparently ‘I have the energy to run their service’ because of sending an e-mail. Sending one e-mail is different to spending 8-9 hours of the day. Rude #HumanNotPd

Tell a clinician what you need to avoid overwhelm, burnout, or meltdown. They ignore it. You hit your limit—either kick off or collapse. Then, you’re blamed or dropped for being ‘monstrous’ or ‘not trying hard enough.’ #HumanNotPD

Two years for problems to be a ‘personality disorder’ rather than a mood disorder or trauma? With 1.8 million people on the waiting list for mental health services? With pretty universal recognition even early intervention is too late? #HumanNotPD

Many predators also weaponize 'BPD' against vulnerable individuals after initially love-bombing them. For those raised as female, it’s almost impossible not to see themselves in BPD criteria. This label is used to tear down vulnerable people for narcissistic supply. #HumanNotPD

There are psychologists in the family court who can diagnose personality disorders without using ICD or DSM. They do it before even the assessment. Ie the solicitor tells them to because they are hired guns!

Awful how those among the very most likely to have had their bodily and emotional boundaries broken in early life get relentlessly policed in the mental health system for not having “good-enough” boundaries. #HumanNotPD

When will mental health professionals get over the idea the only way to conceptualise that some people need long-term support and therapy is by having them agree they have a personality disorder? Its utterly illogical and its used to gaslight people THE WHOLE TIME. #HumanNotPD

About 50% of those who die by suicide in the UK have a history of self-harm. Yet, many are treated like their personality is the problem. This is exactly the wrong approach. We need to offer validation, empathy, and real support—not judgment. #HumanNotPD

On #WorldMentalHealthDay we must be reminded not to be ignorant of the iatrogenic harm caused by the PD construct. Articles like this show us that despite the tireless work of lived experience advocates the stigma continues to be perpetuated across both the mental health and research professions and society as a whole. We as professionals, those with lived experience and especially those who straddle both groups must keep fighting against this. Change is possible. #HumanNotPD #TraumaNotPD #AutismNotPD
“Lack of grit”? Funny, I can’t imagine an article discussing a lack of ‘grit’ in recovery from cancer, depression, headaches, or cPTSD. But when it comes to the PD construct, it’s about personal toughness—not lifelong trauma, social disadvantage, or undiagnosed neurodivergence..

Whatever you think of the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, it is simply unacceptable to treat patients with contempt, emotional distance and disbelief. That is not boundaries; that is cruelty. #HumanNotPD
