Low cost wheat production with a different mindset this year. With the price of phosphorus around $900 / ton last fall I thought… I wonder if I can aggressively cycle nutrients out of last years 🌽 stalks?
This field had 2 light liquid N applications last fall. Where are the corn stalks now?
Coming into May 1st we’ll be close to canopy closure on this field with 1/4 of the standard wheat seeding population of
@PioneerSeeds ultra early 25r800 $20/ac. No commercial MAP or Potash… just 7 gal of 32% preplant, 2 gal mixed in with fall herbicide (pint of Weedmaster) ($4.30 ac) and in the fall #150 AMS #75 urea (#91/36S) around that time 3oz of Zidua was applied with 22oz 24d
Beans were planted at 130k .. 4.0
@PioneerSeeds planting them in an indexed fashion crowding 3 7” bean rows in the 30” gaps in wheat … 5 7” bean rows in the wide 45” gaps to facilitate the tractor for interseeding
$20 chemical
$70 seed
$80 fertility
Revenue potential of 🌽 going back to 🌽 next year then probably back to this ..
The value for our operation is that this field will not require any operation of any kind for 80-90 days after planting the beans.
Reallocating our efforts into tending to our corn and regular beans. When the combine leaves this field there is no baling of the straw. Group IV beans at R2 (beginning pod) just days after summer solstice … and it’s usually pretty clean of weeds.
The “more work” is somewhat of a farce…especially if I get to the next nev where we’ll … plant plant harvest harvest
4 passes. Just need a little equipment modification
