🇮🇳🌍 Did Indians reach ancient Egypt 2,000 years ago?
Intriguing inscriptions discovered in several tombs in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings have been interpreted by some scholars as Tamil-Brahmi and Prakrit graffiti left by visitors from the Indian subcontinent during the 2nd century CE.
One inscription is often read as referring to “Cikai Koṟṟan,” suggesting that Indian travelers, merchants, sailors, or pilgrims may have journeyed deep into Egypt during the flourishing Indo-Roman trade era.
⚓ The ancient maritime networks connecting India with Egypt, Rome, Arabia, and Southeast Asia were far more extensive than many realize. Ports on the Tamil coast played a crucial role in this global exchange of goods, ideas, and culture.
Whether every inscriptional interpretation remains universally accepted or not, the discoveries highlight the remarkable reach of Indian civilization and the vibrant international connections of the ancient world.
