BS KOL Club Token Unlock Preview | #Issue27 Driven by renewed tariff threats from Trump targeting Europe, the crypto market saw a short-term pullback. Both BTC and ETH declined yesterday, reflecting a temporary cooling in overall risk appetite. Meanwhile, White House economic adviser and Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett recently stated publicly that Trump is more likely to want him to remain in his current White House role. Markets widely interpreted the remarks as a signal that Hassett has effectively exited the race to become the next Chair of the Federal Reserve. Following Trump’s signals, prediction markets quickly adjusted expectations. Data from Kalshi and Polymarket show that former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh has surged to a clear lead, with his probability of becoming the next Fed Chair rising to around 60%. Hassett’s odds have fallen to approximately 15%–16%, while current Governor Christopher Waller stands at roughly 13%–14%. Previously, Warsh and Hassett were viewed as neck and neck. Analysts note that Warsh has now emerged as the first “clear frontrunner.” However, given Trump’s historically unpredictable approach to senior appointments, the final outcome remains uncertain. In addition to Warsh, Waller and BlackRock executive Rick Rieder are still considered credible contenders. At the same time, an ongoing judicial investigation into the Federal Reserve headquarters renovation project has introduced further uncertainty into the selection process and reignited debate over the Fed’s institutional independence. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent downplayed the impact, stating that markets remain broadly stable and that the Senate is expected to accept Trump’s eventual nominee. Current Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s term is set to expire on May 15. Trump has indicated that he will announce Powell’s successor later this month, though no specific timeline has been provided. It is for the opposite reason – self-assertion as well as cultural and historical pride – that Achebe insisted on domesticating English. He did not want to be ranged alongside the owners of the language; he wanted to ideologically separate himself and, in that way, be unique and have voice. He did not want to be an African Shakespeare. To merge his views and voice with that of the colonizing host language or rather ‘hostage’ language, is to become voiceless. The uniqueness of his art is in its being African and reflecting an African ethos and worldview. And especially, providing a countering ideology to the discourse of an Africa-civilizing mission and condescension that underlies European literary works and other letters in the colonial library. Moreover, Achebe notes that the African writer cannot afford the petit-bourgeoisies’ affectation of an art-for-arts sake aesthetics. Those whose histories proceed from point A to point B, C, D in a straight line, can luxuriate in those Saturday distractions. Achebe saw, the novelist – and by extension the African creative writer in any genre – as a teacher. Achebe mined his powerlessness and colonial objecthood to become a subject of his own history, while today, some of us run away from our powerlessness. We want to belong to the powerful group, we want to fake our accents, we want so badly to be European that we would bleach our skins, wear synthetic hair, refuse to speak our own languages, reject our culture, borrow our names from Europe; borrow our political systems, borrow our economic system, borrow our religion. In fact, we are shadows emptied out and without substance. We become Mimic men and mimic women; Now if I were a European, I would totally detest such an inauthentic animal. - Amatoritsero Ede | Maple Tree Literary Supplement – issue27 mtls.ca/issue27/amatoritsero… @Amatoritsero
