Nearly four years ago, after years of helping Nnamdi to founder IPOB with other committed pioneers and making it clear that our mission was non-negotiable, I made a life-changing decision. Despite being in my 50s and battling ill health, I chose to become a human rights lawyer. I felt the need to do more.
When my good friend Achalla needed support after leaving the UK, I stepped inβand that led me to join JDS Solicitors Ltd, a proudly Black-Owned law firm in Central London. Itβs a firm that stands strong against the odds, fighting to survive in a world dominated by much larger legal practices. I had no idea how real the struggle was until I saw it for myself.
Just a few weeks ago, one of my cases made headlinesβclearly not everyone was pleased about that. And today? I asked my firmβs director to travel to Manchester for one of my most drawn-out cases. He made the journey... only for the Home Office to withdraw their case before even stepping into the courtroom. Oh yesβIβve got this!
The lesson? Never give up. No matter your age or challenges, you can make a difference. You can continue to live, to learn, and to help others along the way.
