Okay, we know they are professionals behind the grill and have a stellar butcher shop, but thinking he needed to go a little lighter the Connoisseur ventured over to Pinegrove Market and Deli to wander through their salad offerings. The Trio Salad was the pick, made up of your choice of three salads stacked (all-white-meat chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad or tabouli) atop a bed of romaine lettuce….the Connoisseur went with the chicken, tuna and potato salads with tabouli on the side (to give it a look see). The salad is flavorful and colorful too, containing: hard-boiled egg, tomato, cucumber, banana peppers, cheese, black olives and….Tony pickles (slightly sweet and slightly spicy, but not too much of either). A word on the tabouli, this is somewhat new to the Connoisseur’s palette, very refreshing and delicious for the Sunshine State’s summer heat. The Connoisseur had heard good things about this deli on Edgewood Avenue, so he and a member of the Culinary Crew wandered over for lunch to check out the establishment, Gina's Delicatessen - Murray Hill. Upon rolling in, we were impressed by the extensive menu and appreciated the friendly staff. The Connoisseur decided to check out their Club Sandwich accompanied by onion rings (it felt like a club kind of a day). Their club was stacked with: ham, turkey, cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce, banana peppers, mayo and pieces of grilled steak. We left the best for last in the description (the grilled steak) because it was an unexpected and unique take on a club (taking the place of roast beef). Honestly, the Connoisseur will probably be ordering up the same culinary pick next time he and the Culinary Crew head to see Gina, Jackleen and the team (friendly folks cooking up quality eats). This delicious sandwich was a quality eat! Great history too, in talking to Gina we found that she had started her first location in Riverside in 1995 but had since moved to Edgewood Avenue. This fine establishment will be worked into the regular lunch rotation (and we want to try out their breakfast eats too). Now we like us some chicken salad. Wandered over to see the Pinegrove Market and Deli team for some sustenance and tried the St. Johns (their homemade chicken salad sandwich on sour dough with provolone and applewood bacon 🥓), potato salad (and yes you see delicious Nader sauce drizzled over it) and onion rings (perfect alone or with bang bang sauce)…. all delectable. Want to introduce you to something we are going to call the Jacksonville “Connoisseur’s Beaches Breakfast Trail.” Recently had friends in town and introduced them to some of our hangouts at the beaches. We started at Ellen's Kitchen for some quality breakfast eats, going with the always delicious Boss Omelet w/ grilled potatoes, onions and peppers and a grilled biscuit. Held off on coffee because the next stop on the trail was Southern Grounds - Neptune Beach, just a short walk away. Great spot for a caffeinated beverage and we agree with their sign….it is a great place to “gather together.” From there we hopped back in the wheels for a short drive to Cinotti's Bakery for breakfast dessert (aka dessert after breakfast), a coffee donut (their seasonal pick at the time) to cap off the morning. We're looking forward to making it over to partake of their current seasonal, the strawberry donut. Our good friends were digging the “Connoisseur’s Beaches Breakfast Trail,” you may even want to give it a whirl Saturday morn. We have highlighted a few quality eats and have a few more on the radar that can be worked into the trail rotation.
