Here's our #4 most popular video of #2021: the world's largest tree wrapped in an aluminum blanket to protect it from wildfires. The #KNPcomplex was fully contained on Dec. 16, but the fire damaged thousands of giant sequoias in California. Luckily, this tree was saved.

@SequoiaKingsNPS where the #KNPComplex burned has the oldest prescribed fire program on the west coast. When the KNP made a big run north on 10/4 it burned into the Redwood Mtn Grove, one of the largest on earth, with a long history of #rxfire 2/4

Somewhere between 2200 and 3600 large giant sequoias were killed by two Southern Sierra fires this year (#KNPComplex and #WindyFire). That is on top of 7 - 10k trees killed in a single wildfire last year. In the last two years we've lost 15-20% of the world's giant sequoias. 1/4
