You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can put funky optics mounts on old ARs. A follower sent me this @kineticdevelopmentgroup Sidelok mount so I figured I'd give a shot on my old
@danieldefense. It's an oddball overengineered design which clicks on an off the 1913 rail surface as advertised. I must say it was a royal PITA to install as it did not come with needed unique short Allen wrench. The key provided in the sealed packaging was too long to actually fit between the mount and the provided screws. After cutting the wrench to fit, I installed a
@vortexoptics Crossfire II. The optic mount fits tightly on multiple uppers laterally, but there does appear to be some play forward and backward on some optics. There is no way to adjust for potential tolerance stacking with this mount. Regardless, I'll give it a good to try out and eventually will report back with a "return to zero" test.
