On 16th May 2025, Namukisa Sarah, student at Medical Laboratory Training School - Jinja was #discontinued from school with immediate effect because she was found #pregnant. The expulsion due to her pregnancy and her subsequent denial to sit for her final examination was a #violation of the right to education, right to equality and freedom from discrimination, inhuman and degrading treatment in contravention of the 1995 Uganda Constitution as amended Note! On April 24th, 2024, WWM and 2 others filed a Miscellaneous Application at Tororo High Court #Challenging the #legality of #Mandatory Pregnancy Testing in Schools and Subsequent Learners. Through a Court Order dated 25th September 2024, Court #reaffirmed the learner's right to education during and after pregnancy. The Court granted her the opportunity to complete her studies and allowed for reasonable breaks to nurture her baby. It's on this background that WWM demands that the student be accorded #provisional/ interim examinations to enable her complete school within the designated course period with fellow students. @afyanahakiug @LIRAProgramme @ankoleroyalty @CentreforWomen2 @GlobalFundWomen @cehurduganda

Under the #LIRAProgramme, we travelled to Arua (West Nile) and Moroto (Karamoja) to follow up on abortion-related cases involving health workers from Arua and Abim Districts. During our follow-ups, we were able to provide legal support to the health workers and in one of the cases in Court, we established that the matter is still pending judgment on notice. We also investigated and followed up 2 cases in Arua city reported during our mobile #LegalAid camps under the GC7-TASO project titled 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚'𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐈𝐕 &𝐓𝐁 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 project. We also handed over the GF-TASO motorcycle to facilitate our TB contact tracing officer's movements and engagements under the project. #TBHIVHumanRights #CEHURDLegalAid
