“Health is wealth” is not just a phrase, but a powerful reminder that true productivity, excellence, and success mean little without the well-being to sustain them. The LSDPC Fitness Day reflected a growing culture that values people beyond the workplace, encouraging healthier lifestyles, stronger team spirit, and a commitment to self-care. It also served as a reminder that while we work hard, pursue excellence, and show up daily to build lasting impact, we must remain intentional about caring for both the body and mind. Through continued investment in healthcare and staff welfare initiatives, the message remains clear: at @lsdpcofficial , people will always remain at the heart of sustainable progress. A healthier workforce. A stronger institution. A better future. #LSDPC #FitnessDay #HealthIsWealth #Wellness #Leadership #HealthyLiving #TeamSpirit #Lagos

A TALE OF TWO BROTHERS AND A FATHER Politics is a game of influence, conviction and loyalty We can't take away the fact that Agege remains one of the key and populous local governments in Lagos. Demographically, Agege Local Government is the closest to the Lagos State seat of power, it is also the ancient gateway out of Lagos State. For a fact, Agege is one of the most important Local Governments in Lagos. Since the beginning of our days in this country, Agege has consistently delivered to its Political mantra, from the days of AD, AC, ACN and APC. There has been one man who has led the war from 1999 till date and that's Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa Rising through the ranks, Mudashiru Obasa eventually assumed the office of the speaker of the most populous black city in Africa. With great Influence, Agege had seen a bit of development, at least he influenced the construction of the Agege flyover which facelifted the enter Oke koto, Agege total, pen cinema (Oba Ogunji Rd) to the tip of Agege LSDPC Estate. That single project cured the sickness of thieves and miscreants. With his influence, he brought one of the most dogged youths, politically and physically to lead the people of Agege. It was through his influence Oluwagbenga Abiola Omaco became the youngest Local Government administrator during the tenure of Fr. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. That was gracious in its magnanimity. It was through his influence Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi (JP) contested and became the Agege Local Government Chairman. During Egunjobi's Second tenure, Gbenga became the Deputy Chairman. Personally, Egunjobi is an Egbon to me while Gbenga is a friend. The most distant to me is their Oga (Obasa) Now, you see that this is a family affair ? My plea is for Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa to call both parties to a round table and settle whatever that is wrong. Remember, as an Agege breed, outsiders don't settle our differences,we fight, we end it within our various houses having in mind that WE ARE BROTHERS! My message to Gbenga is that, if you had employed outsiders to mess up your own brothers, remember, brothers will be brothers and when it's time to have that serious conversation, outsiders will be locked out! TELL THEM TO STOP! My message to bloggers (actually the two of them, I will not tag them out of respect but they will see this message) My message to the two of you is that, we are brothers with staunch political knowledge, this will end and it will be settled but when the dust settles......what is your fate ? Politics is very dicey, the impossible will suddenly become a reality..... Deola Adelabu Non Political party member 11/06/2026 Lagos

1949 Photo: “Aerial view of Lagos, looking southeast; Lagos Island in the foreground, Victoria Island at the top" undergoing sandfilling. 1948 Acquisition: The colonial Government, via the Lagos Executive Development Board (LEDB), acquired the original, water-locked land from the Oniru Chieftaincy family, paying £250k compensation. The Lagos Executive Development Board (LEDB) is exactly 98 years old in 2026, having been established in 1928 under the Lagos Town Planning Ordinance. The Board was created as a direct colonial government response to the Bubonic Plague that hit the Lagos Colony in the 1920s. The LEDB was primarily tasked with clearing unsanitary slums in Central Lagos and developing habitable housing and reclamation schemes across the city. Over time, its functions evolved and shaped much of the city's modern layout: Initial Projects: Led early urban renewal in places like Ebute-Metta, Yaba, and Apapa.Dissolution & Transformation: On April 1, 1972, the LEDB was dissolved. Its urban planning responsibilities were transitioned to the Ministry of Works, while its housing and estate development duties were absorbed into the newly created Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC). Private rentals vs Government houses: Now You Know LEDB stood for the Lagos Executive Development Board. Inaugurated in 1928 by the British Colonial Government, it was Nigeria’s first formal urban planning and public housing authority. The agency was responsible for tackling the city’s sanitation and housing deficits following a severe bubonic plague outbreak. Reclaiming swamp lands and creating new planned suburbs, extensions, and estates in areas like Apapa, Yaba, and Ikoyi. Serving as the central authority for city zoning, regulating building plans, and attempting to manage the rapidly increasing population in post-independence Lagos. Eventually, in 1972, the LEDB was dissolved and its responsibilities were merged with other authorities to form the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC).

A good approach is to start with existing LSDPC estates and apply the new rules there first. Lagos State should also reduce high land and building fees, review costly building regulations, and expand affordable housing estates before wider implementation.

They can start with the existing houses under LSDPC by using the proposed regulations on them. The state govt should also consider reducing the exorbitant fees attached to land document regularization, building approvals, and other related charges. There is also a need to review existing building regulations; especially issues around setbacks and other restrictive provisions that unnecessarily increase construction costs. More importantly, the state govt should develop additional low-cost housing estates and practically test these proposed policies within such schemes before extending them to the general public. ✌🏿

Lagos State government does not own most houses in Lagos. It only manages a limited number of public housing units through agencies like LSDPC. The majority of homes are privately owned, so government focuses more on regulation and housing development.

In the last 7 years LSDPC completed 12 housing projects and delivered a total of 1,190 home units. Presently the Corporation has 29 ongoing projects at various locations and these projects are estimated to produce a total of 3,149 home units in addition to the housing stock in the State.
