1/2. One of the best life choices I made - becoming a #LearningDisabilityNurse. Sure, I work in generic services as a staff #Nurse on a busy neurology ward at the moment but the knowledge and skills I acquired while developing my craft as an RNLD are the foundation and centreโ€ฆ
Great article here talking about the importance and impact of LD Nurses. news.sky.com/story/he-didnt-โ€ฆ #rnld @Shaun_LDNurse @LDNurse1 @mencap_charity @LearningDisSW @LDChangingCare

๐ŸŒŸ As a learning disability nurse, I've often heard discussions about changing our title. While I understand that some view "learning disability nurse" as outdated, I want to take a moment to express my pride in this title and what it represents. For many of the patients I've supported, having a learning disability nurse is not just a titleโ€”it's a badge of honor. In the past, and even today, individuals with learning disabilities have had to advocate fiercely for their rights, and they continue to do so with strength and pride. They are not embarrassed; they are proud of who they are, and I am proud to support them. My nursing degree reflects my commitment to this community, and while I have transferable skills to assist individuals with various needs, I worry about what a title change might signal. Would it dilute the specific support we provide to those with learning disabilities? Everyone deserves support, but I know from experience that our capacity is limited. #LearningDisabilityNurse #Advocacy #PrideInOurWork #NursingCommunity #SupportForAll

Sometime I get comments about my views of the future direction of our field of nursing as a lack of commitment, trust me when I say it comes from a position of love. #learningdisabilitynurse
