The Wisdom of Builders
Yesterday’s walk happened on one of the scenic hills in Kisoro where my dear friend
@ruganzubruno, a visionary, grounded, culture-rooted, soul-led artist/builder, is creating an Art Village. The place is truly a homage to art and artists, and I’m honored to get an early glimpse.
I also came here to glean wisdom and to gain knowledge even as the
@CivsourceAfrica family prepares to build The Leaders’ Oasis. As a Zulu/Xhosa proverb says, “Indlela ibuzwa kwa ba phambili”: you ask for guidance from those who are ahead of you.
Walking those hills and listening to Ruganzu speak about his vision, I was reminded that meaningful building is rarely done alone. I was also reminded that every bold dream begins with small, faithful steps. Watching Ruganzu build patiently, shaping a space for art, culture, and community, makes the path ahead feel both real and possible.
Leaders are always in build mode - building systems, people, programs, services, spaces, communities and legacies.
While this building can sometimes feel like a mountain that is hard to climb, look for the path of those who have gone before you. There you will find the gems you need for your journey.
Every meaningful thing we build carries the fingerprints of others.
