Managing an agricultural project is never easy. Sometimes, it feels simpler to tear everything down and start afresh rather than fixing what’s broken😄. But what if the real solution isn’t to destroy, but to adapt and innovate?
That’s exactly what I learnt from Baba, a retired septuagenarian who had tried—and failed—four times to build a successful snail farm. He had invested time, energy and money into online trainings and countless recommendations, but nothing worked. His snails kept dying, eggs not hatching with stunted growth amidst the baby snails.
At some point, he lost hope. His wife, tired of seeing him struggle, said: Don’t stress yourself, my good man. Maybe people don’t actually breed snails like we see on the internet. Maybe it’s all a scam."
But something in Baba refused to give up. One last chance, he told himself. He reached out to someone, and that person referred him to me.
When I arrived at his farm, I saw the years of frustration in his eyes. And I told him the truth—he was too old to run an intensive snail farm. But instead of giving up, we chose a new path where we conserved what he already built and transitioned to a semi-extensive system.
We didn’t demolish his farm. Instead, we removed the roofing sheets, replaced them with nets and optimized the environment for snail growth. Today, just 8 months later, Baba’s farm has over 5,000 snails from an initial 400 parent stock!
He called me over the weekend, his voice filled with gratitude, showering me with prayers. But the biggest lesson here isn’t just about snail farming—it’s about persistence, adaptability and sustainable agriculture.
Successful people aren’t those who never fail; they are the ones who seek help, learn from their setbacks, and rise again.
In my next post, I’ll be sharing sustainable strategies we used to revive Baba’s farm and boost productivity. If you’re struggling with your farm, you won’t want to miss it!
Don't forget to like, comment and share for others to learn too.
Let’s keep pushing.
Let’s keep growing.
Let’s farm sustainably!
Of course! Let's do snails! 🐌💌
