Worked as a visualizer in an Advertising outfit in my teenage years where my partner and friend worked as the graphics artist. Together we created a balance between art and design for all our successful outputs. Today the line between art and design is blurred and the understanding of the distinct differences between the two will make your work stand out from the rest. It is instructive to admit that Art and Design are not the same. Since we have established earlier that to think critically and make quality decisions we must narrow the fields and options when dealing with vast entities. Let’s observe Art as visual art and design as product design for clarity. INTENTION Art is created to provoke thoughts and emotion in a consumer to be appreciated. It usually asks questions. Design has a set goal a problem that it aims to solve. Design exists to find a purpose and to find solutions. The purpose for your handle must be known and with the Design (both in construct and forms of engagement this can be achieved, while deploying art/creativity as a complementary means/vehicle of reinforcing the intention and purpose. INTERPRETATION Art is open ended when it comes to interpretation. It provokes different thoughts and emotions. Design cannot afford to be vague, if it is it is bad design. The posts may ask questions and provoke thoughts but the purpose of your engament must never be lost. Your consistency of iterating the intent of being out here must be maintained. RULES Art doesn’t not have a set standard of rules whereas Design does. Design needs to be consistent and cannot only be according to the whim of the designer since it has to be used by other people. People will quote you and screenshot your posts. Let it be obvious to anyone who sees this as an authentic work from a disciplined source. Balance is key. PROCESS Artists usually create their work based on their instincts and preferences or if commissioned they may include the preferences of their clients. Design is a never-ending methodical iterative process. They need to observe and highlight pin points of the user, keep in mind the target audience. Put their own ego and desire for self expression aside and design according to what the user needs. You don’t wing anything if you are authentic. Being intentional matters. Find balance. LOOKS Functionality is the fundamental need of the design. It must work well to solve the problem. Any visually appealing design is useless if it doesn’t do what it was meant to do. For design functionality over aesthetics always win, which doesn’t hold true for art. To the growth minded enrolled in monetization on X, for authenticity sake, you must consider the Art and Design of your engagement out here. The Design must be the definition of your area of expertise, what you love doing and are best at and what people would appreciate you for that solves a problem. A brother of mine @Le_CaptAwesome often tweets each day “Today is a blessing” and there are some days that I take exception to his positivity and would be tempted to reply, “You know this how?” based on my predicament at the time but despite that, his consistent posts in that trajectory were therapeutic and I look forward to them regardless of how I feel. You never know how many faces you put a smile on with the seemingly little things you do that most don’t give you feedback on. You are not as alone as you think out there. The validity of the engagements is highly exaggerated. You are touching lives regardless of the agreement or disagreements.
