In 2019-20, Vale of Glamorgan Council achieved a 70% recycling rate, securing its position as one of the top areas in Wales for recycling.
Despite this success, the Council identified that a small but growing number of residents were including non-recyclable materials in their co-mingled recycling bins.
The Council sought ways to improve the quality of recyclable materials collected at the kerbside by increasing the level of separation of materials at source.

As part of this work to accelerate the circular economy in Wales, our @WRAP_Cymru team has produced a series of case studies – sharing learnings and establishing good practice to motivate more initiatives that increase reuse and recycling.
Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council completed the construction of its new Roseheyworth Reuse and Recycling Centre and partnered with @WastesavrsReuse to open an on-site reuse shop, in an effort to improve reuse and recycling rates.
