The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) has launched a fruit subsidy scheme aimed at boosting local production by supporting the establishment of 100 hectares annually, targeting a total of 400 hectares over five years to 2030. The NAB has opened applications for its Fruit Value Chain Development Scheme (FVCDS), which offers a 30% subsidy on certified seedlings, fertilisers and agrochemicals up to the first harvest. NAB fruit development officer Tangeni Hangula said applicants must be new or existing fruit producers with between one and ten hectares of land, which must be fenced, have reliable water access and proof of legal ownership. “The subsidy covers three key inputs: seedlings, fertilisers and agrochemicals used to combat pests and diseases. The scheme operates on a 70–30 cost-sharing basis, with 30% covered by NAB and the remaining 70% borne by the participant,” Hangula said. thebrief.com.na/2026/04/nami… #namibia #agriculture #fruitsubsidy #localfarming #foodsecurity #agribusiness #farming #sustainableagriculture @MAWLR_Nam @wianclub @agri4youth

Hawaii's food security is fragile: food supplies would last only 7 days if shipments stopped. Supporting local agriculture is crucial to building a self-sufficient food system on the islands. #Hawaii #FoodSecurity #LocalFarming

In Japan, many supermarkets now feature the farmer’s photo on fruit and vegetable boxes. 🥕🍎 This growing trend connects shoppers directly with the people who grow their food — building trust, transparency, and support for local farmers. 👩‍🌾 By showing where produce comes from, Japan promotes fair trade and community-based agriculture. 🌾🇯🇵 #JapanInnovation #LocalFarming #FarmToTable #FoodTransparency #SustainableAgriculture #SupportLocal #CommunityFarming #TrustYourFarmer

We were told that scale was progress, that sameness was safety. They lied. The world does not thrive on uniformity—it breathes through difference. The future will be local, diverse, and defiantly human. #LocalFarming #Diversity #RegenerativeAgriculture #FoodSovereignty

One hectare. That’s all it takes—ten tunnels, each a thousand square metres of order and light. A hectare that doesn’t depend on weather, superstition, or the benevolence of middlemen. Each tunnel becomes a living engine, producing roughly 695 kilograms of vegetables every week, and together they feed around 350 families—not in theory, but in arithmetic. These aren’t vast farmlands stretching into oblivion. They’re precision ecosystems, built to sit close to communities, even in suburban belts, where food can be harvested in the morning and delivered before lunch. The produce isn’t trucked halfway across the country; it’s grown where people live, under controlled air, clean water, and a pest management system that spares bees while annihilating caterpillars. At average family spending—about £25 to £35 per week for fresh vegetables—ten tunnels gross between £455,000 and £637,000 a year. That’s not utopia; that’s a profitable business model with a conscience and a ledger. One hectare, intelligently managed, outperforms broadacre land bloated with fertiliser, fuel, and inefficiency. When the capital expenditure is complete and the operating margins are refined, this becomes a repeatable system—a sustainable, ongoing enterprise that grows real food, creates stable income, and redefines what a local farm can be. Not charity. Not ideology. Just work, precision, and profit. #LocalFarming #ControlledAgriculture #PolytarpProfit #Feeding350Families #OneHectareSystem #BtPrecision #SustainableBusiness

On Monday, Peak staff took part in the annual Crop Hop Tater Tour! 🚜🥔 We visited Dufferin Market Gardens, where cabbage was being harvested, and Haskett Growers, where we stepped into a potato field mid-harvest. The tour also included stops at the wash plants at Kroeker Farms and Southern Potato Co. — a great opportunity to see the care and hard work that goes into bringing fresh produce from field to table. 🌱 #CropHop #FarmTour #LocalFarming #FieldToTable #ManitobaAgriculture
