Tick…

The endless ticking marched on as the chest of the Dergwuff rose and fell slowly while he slumbered. Beyond the thin walls of his domicile, the world crept on. The night was still young after all. In the darkness of his room, though, the mind of the Dergwuff dreamed on. Through beautifully tall fields of grass, he ran, feeling the warmth of the hot sun bearing down on him. He almost seemed to remember this place. As he looked into the distance, he squinted to see. A man stood atop a nearby hill, holding his laser lancer. The sight alone made his blood freeze with fear as he now remembered why. It all came rushing back to him as he could tell who it was by their outline alone.
He bolted through the tall vegetation in an attempt to get back to camp. He knew something was up. He ran further and harder before he stumbled into this dark pit he failed to notice. He fell deep into it, the darkness surrounding him as he awoke, yelling out in terror as his mind went haywire. Sweating and panting to catch his breath as he sits up in his bed. The stillness that enveloped him slowed his racing mind. Eventually, letting him catch his breath before he slowly tossed the sheets from his gruff, war-torn body. His skin, in places, flared up in color while his scars echoed an intense past all the while. His paws still trembled a little as he reached for his tablet. Turning it on, letting the blue hue of the screen fill the room while he checked the various systems. Everything he checked, thankfully in his mind, turned up green on his end. The locks, the cameras, and even the thermal sensors that were dotted around the house. He wasn't there, this time it seems. The dergwuff picked up two sets of solid metal dog tags first thing after he set down the tablet. They got inspected slowly, an everyday thing for him at this point. Looking at the names on them once again. Sgt. Raiden Mcloud was embossed onto the thin metal; the other tag read Kai Longshadow. Kai’s tag was covered in significant patina, contrasting the sheen of Raiden’s tag. He placed them around his neck firmly. The clink of them touching echoed around the quiet room.
The big dergwuff swung his hefty legs from the bed as his paws clicked onto the solid floor below him. lifting himself from the edge as he took his paws, and ran them over his face to try and mat some of his loose fur. out of instinct, he meandered his way down the wide hall and glanced once before pulling away. catching a quick glimpse of something he thought was a shadow, similar to the one he saw in his nightmare. He huffed to himself softly before exclaiming to himself. “gah, dam nightmares are getting worse again”. He decided to do his morning routine of getting his toast and coffee to distract his already overworked mind. His brain still felt heavy in his skull as he walked through his dimly lit house.
The Iron Grey.
