On Friday, DNR scientists demonstrated how they document the oxygen, nutrients, salinity, temperature, & chlorophyll content of
#ChesBay waters that help track the progress of efforts to reduce runoff & algal blooms as well as improve dissolved oxygen conditions

ALT Staff prepare to deploy a sonde, which takes readings every 15 minutes and is monitored by DNR staff. A sonde is a computer and a power supply that can be submerged, and has a wide variety of sensors attached to it to measure different water quality parameters.
ALT This container is used to collect a water sample for testing by DNR staff.
ALT Staff retrieve and collect the water sample.
ALT Water is tested in a mobile lab kept in a van. DNR staff regularly monitor 22 sites throughout the Chesapeake Bay and others in non-tidal waters throughout Maryland.
