In India the mental health care availability is scarce, we are working on awareness still, if the state facilitates care and support especially for the disability part of #mentalhealth it must be come. #MHTchat
If money/NHS constraints were no object, would you want to receive open-ended therapy and/or be able to provide this for your patients? Is there a need for a patient to be incentivised to embrace therapy? Is this a way it could - or should - be done? Is it ethical? #MHTchat

I agree, therapy isn't magic, and it has to be taken one step at a time at the pace comfortable for the survivor. #MHTchat #Mentalhealth
"The focus is on achieving those steps that can take us in the right direction rather than complete change", writes therapist Michael O'Sullivan mentalhealthtoday.co.uk/blog… To what extent does this resonate with your idea of therapy? #MHTchat

I agree, therapy unlike other medical. practices is unpredictable hence the role of an empathetic therapist is prime. #MHTchat #Mentalhealth

When I've gone to therapy, I was in pain and just want the pain to end. I hoped the therapist could offer tools for that. Sometimes it worked and other times I left feeling worse. A good therapist is worth her weight in gold. #MHTchat

A typical question in Single Session Therapy might be: “If we were only going to meet for one session, what problem would you want to focus on?” In what ways could this question be helpful in all therapy, not just SST? #MHTchat mentalhealthtoday.co.uk/blog…

Is length of time needed in therapy partly determined by "how much work they [the patient] are willing to put in"? Karen Manton believes this to be true for her: mentalhealthtoday.co.uk/blog… #MHTchat

There is no real benefit to this in my opinion. I always tell my clients let’s take it one session at a time. The rapport building process could take several months and it’s up to the actual person how much work they are willing to put in that determines their length of Tx.

Even when I offer psychological first aid I tell the person seeking help that each condition and its manifestation is unique in each survivor, so nobody must be judged by someone else as a scale, there are no blueprints. #MHTchat
Have you been told “how long” you need in therapy? Or, do you discuss this with patients? If so, what did you make of being told this or having to tell someone this? #MHTchat

Forever - and that’s a good thing! I have been with my therapist for over 10years. The frequency ebbs and flows as needed but she is always there for me. She knows me, keep me accountable & reminds me of how far I’ve come. We use DBT and my favorite tool is Ride the Wave #MHTchat

Recovery isn't linear and there can be relapses hence setting rigid goals can be undue pressure on both therapist and survivor. #MHTchat
In what ways could telling a patient how long they may need to be in therapy for be unhelpful? #MHTchat
