We have suffered from decades of WoW clones; you could say that once WoW debuted, the death of MMOG innovation died as well, because everything made or remade was created to get WoW players to migrate.

Started playing around in the "Legend of California" MMOG this morning. First game I've allowed myself to play in a LONG time. Been playing for about 20 minutes. Mostly learning controls, bashing bunnies (or antelope), defending against coyotes, and crafting basic stuff so far. Am just about to pursue my first mission (killing Outlanders, whatever those are (probably bandits or something)). A good little palate cleanser so far when I need a break from writing/editing. store.steampowered.com/app/2…

Absolutely, I watched a few episodes years ago in an effort to see what was happening in the real world, concluded BBC Question Time was about as real as my MMOG avitar who has more freedom as pixels and promptly cancelled my TV licence in disgust.

Busy start of the week. Ellyse Cedeno honoured us with her presence and wisdom on the @BeamThereDT . Lovely to find a like minded person who has solved similar problems of scale and reliability with MMOG. She uses Elixir, I used Erlang, the challenges & scars are still the same.

Prediction markets are the ultimate evolution of the terminally online, and the ego-driven capital allocators. (two primary demographics of crypto) The one thing holding these two cohorts back from coming together to rekindle the degen MMOG spirit, is the lack of markets that interest them both. Right now you can trade tens of thousands of event contracts on Polymarket, but very few of them captivate that MMOG crypto audience. Crypto ppl don’t wanna bet on politics and boring shit like the next fed chair. They wanna spin a Kyle Salami and HLJeff argument from the timeline into a prop bet for bragging rights. They wanna debate esoteric niche structural MEV topics with wintermute and bet on who will be right. They wanna bet on whether [insert over hyped thing] is pure unadulterated yet-to-be revealed crime or not. They wanna bet on whether the “buy backs” are real (they’re not, they never are). They wanna bet on which CeFi company is next to rug. They wanna bet on how quickly the metrics for CZ’s newest copycat BNB project deflate after the token drops. They wanna debate how many strands of hair gainzy will have left by 2027. Polymarket doesn’t care about these things. It’s a mainstream app. But prediction markets are the perfect substrate for crypto MMO games. And they don’t need greater fools to work. As long as ppl have egos and drama persists, you can spin any debate into a prediction market. Oh and you can have fun while your at it putting your money where your mouth is :)
I post much less about crypto now because it’s just not fun, on one side you have hype beasts who couldn’t tell you what a bonding curve is if you held a gun to their head and on the other you have ex Morgan Stanley employees in suits at stable coin companies.

I hate that we have to grind like an MMOG to unlock favourite cars (such as La Ferrari) instead of just purchasing it from the showroom like we could in Forza Horizon 3. Really irritates me. Anyway, I'm sure this game will still be fun as long is I can do custom S2 only racing

So, sorry, I totally misunderstood. Not one of my better days. Mea culpa. They're so dismissive of anyone over 50 here, it wouldn't surprise me. I had issues with a card scanner the other day, apologized to the young guy behind me because I was on the 5th attempt. He said, "Yeah, I know, man. Technology, right? Things have changed so much in your life." Then the stupid thing went through (I think it was an internet blip). I looked at him and said, "Not really the issue. I designed the first MMOG, and he" -- pointing to my husband -- "has software on Mars." He was flabbergasted. Never occurred to the dude that Gen X built all this crap.
